The Henry and Janet Guarriello Scholarship Fund, which will provide support to help assist music students with college tuition expenses, is an endowment fund of the Franklin County Foundation administered by the Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
In order to qualify for the scholarship, students must have studied at the Cumberland Valley School of Music for at least four consecutive years, have been accepted into a college or conservatory to pursue a degree in music or the theater arts, and have demonstrated ability to be a successful candidate in their chosen field. Other factors which will be considered include performance history, teacher recommendations, if the candidate studied more than one instrument at CVSM or was a Merit Scholarship Award winner, and financial need.
The number of awards granted and the amount of the awards will be determined by the available pool of funds on any given year. The scholarship is available for tuition, books and fees. It cannot be used for room and board. The Foundation does not pay scholarships to individuals, but instead authorizes the grant to be paid to the college or university to be credited to the individual student’s account. The deadline for applying for the scholarship is April 1, 2011.

The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, with over 600 students and 53 faculty members at three locations: Thomson Hall, Wilson College, Chambersburg; Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church and St. Andrew School, Waynesboro; Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg; and St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Hagerstown, MD. The school offers private lessons and classes for students of all ages, and scholarship assistance is available based on both merit and financial need.
