Founded in 1990, the Cumberland Valley School of Music (CVSM) is a full member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
Our offices and primary studios are located in Thomson Hall at Wilson College, where we offer a wide range of lessons, classes, workshops, and summer camps and present recitals and concerts in the beautiful Thomson Alumnae Chapel, which houses two recently renovated Steinway Concert Grand pianos and a Moller Organ. However we also teach at the Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA, the Montessori Academy, Chambersburg, PA; CVSM Studio at 32 W. Main St. and St. Andrew School, Waynesboro, PA; and St. Ann Roman Catholic Church and St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, MD.
Over 600 students are enrolled at CVSM in a given year, served by 55 highly qualified faculty members.
CVSM sponsors the Cumberbunds (a childrens’ chorus); the CVSM Community Symphonic Band; the CVSM Community String Orchestra; the CVSM Concert Jazz Band; the CVSM New Horizon’s Band (for adults ages 50 and older); numerous student ensembles; extensive performance and recital opportunities (last year, over 500 students performed in recitals, and CVSM faculty and students performed at more than 100 different venues in the area); and numerous workshops. We offer a full range of outreach programs to area senior and community centers and public and private schools (including private lessons to students at Wilson College, Mercersburg Academy, Montessori Academy, and St. Andrew School, and schedule numerous events throughout the communities we serve, including an annual Showcase Concert, an Awards Concert, a Neighborhood Chefs’ Walk, an Elegant Winter Dinner Dance & Auction, and an annual student Performathon.
Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit, and students in need are actively sought each year.
