COREY EVAN ROTZ TO PRESENT A VOCAL MASTER CLASS - MARCH 10

Chambersburg, PA.  Corey Evan Rotz will present a master class at the Cumberland Valley School of Music on Saturday, March 10, 1:00 pm at Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA.

Selected CVSM voice students will perform a prepared piece for Mr. Rotz.  He will work with each student individually in an open forum on such things as phrasing, musicality, technique and diction.  It is a chance for Mr. Rotz to share his vocal secrets and stage experience to help the younger singer achieve a new plateau and is a valuable learning experience for those for those participating as well as those observing.

Although Mr. Rotz will be working onstage with several pre-selected singers, attendance in the audience at the master class is free and open to the public.  By observing the process and listening to Rotz’s comments, participants will glean a tremendous amount of information and techniques which can then be applied to their own vocal endeavors.

Corey Evan Rotz has appeared onstage in over 200 performances with the Washington Opera since he joined the company in 1995.   In 2002, Mr. Rotz toured Japan with the company where he sang the role of Cassio in Otello, performing with Placido Domingo in the title role.  He recently appeared at Carnegie Hall, singing the role of Raymond in the concert production of Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans.  Other concert appearances have taken him from the East Room of the White House to the concert halls and cathedrals of Europe.   Locally, he has performed in CVSM’s Musicale series, the Three American Tenors Concert, Be My Love – A musical tribute to Mario Lanza,  and a series of concerts at the Capitol Theatre with the late Susan Rowe Gable, pianist. Mr. Rotz and Gable recorded a CD of Broadway favorites, Keep the Music Playing.  Most recently he was an organizer and featured performer in CVSM’s “Peg of Our Hearts” Concert.  The proceeds of that concert established the Margaret Weeks Voice Scholarship which will be granted each spring to the top placed student in CVSM’s voice Division of the Merit Award Auditions.  Rotz is experienced in a wide range of musical styles, and is in demand as a vocal coach and consultant.

Paula Hepfer, program director of Cumberland Valley School of Music notes that “Corey is widely known as a world-class tenor, what is less known is that he is an extraordinary vocal teacher and coach as well.  His great knowledge of vocal production, his ability to articulate that knowledge, and his great sense of humor make him an outstanding educator as well as performer.”  Hepfer encourages local choir directors, class room educators, and soloists to observe the free class.
