HAGERSTOWN.  Students at St. Maria Goretti High School will perform the musical Celebration, written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt,  best known as the creators of the more widely known "The Fantasticks", which is the world's longest running musical (having run off Broadway for 42 years and 17,162 performances).

On a magical New Year's Eve, a young Orphan stumbles into the home of the richest man in the world, whose bizarre entourage includes a beautiful fallen Angel. With the Orphan's help, the jaded Mr. Rich regains his humanity, only to find himself locked in ritualistic battle with the youth for the Angel's love. All of this takes place on a platform surrounded by masked Revelers who participate in the action and wait to see what the winter night will bring.

Celebration is a joint production of St. Maria Goretti High School and the Cumberland Valley School of Music, in Chambersburg, PA.  CVSM currently offers music and theater classes at Goretti.  The play is directed by CVSM instructor Richard Shoap, with musical direction by Gerald Kowallis and piano accompaniment by Brian Helman.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on March 15 and 16 and 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm on March 17 at the Women’s Club, located at 31 S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, MD.  Tickets are for open seating.  Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance by calling Mary Grove at St. Maria Goretti High School at (301)-739-4266.  Tickets are scheduled to go on sale later in February.
