CVSM COMMUNITY SYMPHONIC BAND TO PRESENT CONCERT ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 29
The CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be holding its annual winter concert at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 29, at Chambersburg Area High School auditorium, 511 S. Sixth St., Chambersburg, PA. Admission to the concert is free, although donations to the non-profit Cumberland Valley School of Music are gratefully accepted.
The band includes musicians from all walks of life, including many professional musicians and educators, who enjoy playing challenging concert band repertoire, which runs the gamut from classical music and concert marches to jazz and musical theater.
Conducted by Tim Gotwald, the the band will perform a diverse program of concert band music including classical, jazz, and marches.
Rehearsals are scheduled for Sunday afternoons 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, January 8, 15 and 22 in the Chambersburg Area High School Band Room. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, January 30, at 3:00 pm in the CAMS auditorium. Participation in the band and attendance at the concert are both free, and CVSM invites you to pull out your instrument and join in the fun.
Band director Tim Gotwald recently retired from the Chambersburg Area School District after 37 years of service. He taught both elementary music and was the CASHS band director. He is an accomplished flutist and saxophonist and plays regularly with the Hagerstown Municipal Band, the CVSM Jazz Quartet, CVSM Concert Jazz Band, Mercersburg Community Chorus orchestra, Buzz Jones Big Band, and other ensembles. He holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University.
The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, with over 600 students and 50 faculty members. The school teaches lessons and classes on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice, piano, and guitar, and offers a wide variety of programs and ensembles for students of all ages, from toddlers to adults, at locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown.
