Community String Orchestra presents free concert, March 27, 8:00 pm, Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College

 

New orchestra members are welcome!  If you play violin, viola, cello, or string bass and would like to play with our orchestra, please call the CVSM office to sign up.  Participation in the orchestra is FREE.  Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, February 28 through March 27, from 7:00 - 8:30 pm

The CVSM Community String Orchestra will be presenting a concert on Tuesday, March 27, at 8:00 PM at Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg. Admission to the concert is free, although donations to the Cumberland Valley School of Music, a nonprofit community school of the arts, will be gratefully accepted.

The orchestra includes musicians from all walks of life and all ages who enjoy playing challenging orchestral music.  Under the guidance of conductor Herman Hopple, the diverse program including works by Mozart, Brahms, Vaughan Williams, Christian Sinding, and Cecil Sharp.

Featuring Violin Soloist, Monica Miller

Monica Miller will perform the violin solo in Mozart’s Concerto # 3 in G Major.   Monica is a violin student of Deborah Stotelmyer at CVSM and the winner of four Merit Scholarship Awards at the school.  She attends Shalom Christian Academy.   She has plans to major in music after graduation, but has not yet chosen which school she will attend.  Monica is the daughter of Ray and Ginny Miller, Greencastle

 

Director Herman Hopple, former string instructor and director of the Chambersburg Area School District Symphony, holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University and a Masters in Music Education from Penn State University.  He has played upright bass with the Potomac Symphony and the Gettysburg College Community Orchestra and is currently principal bass and section leader with the Shippensburg College Community Orchestra.  In addition, Herm is well known for his work on electric and upright bass with the groups Four Easy Pieces, the CVSM Jazz Quartet, and the CVSM Concert Jazz Band.  He also teaches bass at CVSM.

The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Arts Education, with more than 600 students and 55 faculty members at locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown.  The school offers individual instruction on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice, piano, and guitar and offers a wide variety of classes, workshops, summer camps, and ensembles for students of all ages and abilities, from toddlers to adults.  For more information, call the Cumberland Valley School of Music at (717)-261-1220.
