CVSM AWARDS CONCERT SUNDAY, MAY 1, 3:00 PM THOMSON ALUMNAE CHAPEL, WILSON COLLEGE Cumberland Valley School of Music 2011-2012 Merit Award Winners
The Cumberland Valley School of Music will be presenting the CVSM Awards Concert on Sunday, May 1, at 3:00 PM in Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA. The recital will feature the winners of CVSMs merit scholarship competition, which was held on April 2, as well as graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in music and the winners of this years Benjamin Rhine Scholarship. In the Merit Awards Competition, students vied for awards in instrumental, piano and vocal categories. Evaluated by teams of impartial judges on such criteria as technique, tone, interpretation, stage presence, and sight-reading, the first three prize winners in each category will perform. Winners this year are: Vocal Awards First Place: The Margaret Weeks Vocal Scholarship Katarina Johansson studies voice at CVSM with Elisabeth Turchi, is a 7th grade student at Montessori Academy of Chambersburg, daughter of Elizabeth Johansson, Chambersburg, PA Second Place Marina Addlesberger studies voice at CVSM with Suzanne Sweigart, is a 9th grade student and is homeschooled, daughter of James and Mary Addlesberger, Chambersburg, PA Honorable Mention Shannon Quinn-- studies voice at CVSM with Elisabeth Turchi , is a 8th grade student at Corpus Christi School, daughter of Randy and Marianne Quinn, Saint Thomas, PA Piano Awards First Place McQuire Allen-Hall studies piano at CVSM with Brian Helman, is an 8th grade student at Corpus Christi School, daughter of Sanda and Michael Allen-Hall, Chambersburg, PA Second Place Paul Lessard studies piano at CVSM with Brian Helman, is a 11th grade student at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, son of Randy and Jean Lessard, Chambersburg, PA Third Place Rebekah Duvall studies piano at CVSM with Julia Emig, is a 3rd grade student at Greencastle Area Elementary School, daughter of Paul and Anne Duvall, Greencastle, PA Instrumental Awards First Place Monica Miller (violin) studies at CVSM with Deborah Stotelmyer, a 11th grade student at Shalom Christian Academy, daughter of Ray and Ginny Miller, Greencastle, PA Second Place Grantley Showalter (cello) studies at CVSM with Michael Cameron, an 11th grade student and is homeschooled, son of Ruth and Linden Showalter, Waynesboro, PA Third Place Paul Lessard (saxophone) studies at CVSM with Paul Grane, a 11th grade student at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, son of Randy and Jean Lessard, Chambersburg, PA Also performing will be the winner of this years Benjamin A. Rhine Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a CVSM student who is studying and displaying aptitude on multiple instruments. This years winner is: Evan Schoenberger CVSM student of Susan Matson (piano), Marlin Barnes (marimba) and Edgar Myers (percussion). Evan is a 10th grade student at Mercersburg Academy, son of Kevin and Kelly Schoenberger, Mercersburg, PA In addition, CVSM will be honoring graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in music or the performing arts or are past merit award winners. Graduating Seniors who will be performing: Preston Charlesworth studies tuba at CVSM with Bernie Pitkin. He will graduate from Chambersburg Area Senior High School and attend Slippery Rock University majoring in music education. He is the son of Jane and Ernie Charlesworth, Chambersburg, PA Andrew Stadler studies trumpet at CVSM with Gloria McCauley. He will graduate from Chambersburg Area Senior High School and attend University of Alabama majoring in music. He is the son of Dan and Michelle Stadler, Chambersburg, PA David Forbes studies voice at CVSM with Keith Brant and Gerald Kowallis. He will graduate from St. Maria Goretti High School and attend Muhlenburg College majoring in musical theatre. He is the son of Sally and Jim Forbes, Fayetteville, PA Kevin Gorman studies piano at CVSM with Brian Helman. He will graduate from St. Maria Goretti High School and will be attending Crane School of Music. He is the son of Barbara and Tim Gorman, Chambersburg, PA The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education with over 600 students and 55 faculty members at six locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown.
