Founded in 1990, the Cumberland Valley School of Music’s (CVSM) offices are located on the campus of Wilson College in beautiful south central Pennsylvania, where its 55 faculty members serve over 600 students.  The school offers lessons, classes, and summer camps at several locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Mercersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD.  In addition, outreach programs are provided to public and private schools, area youth programs, and senior centers.

 

CVSM teaches all orchestral and band instruments, voice, theatrical techniques, Suzuki piano, and numerous classes for all ages, from toddlers to adults.  CVSM also sponsors the Cumberbunds (children’s chorus); CVSM Community Symphonic Band; CVSM Community String Orchestra, CVSM Concert Jazz Band, CVSM Rock Band; student ensembles; extensive performance and recital opportunities; and numerous workshops, events, master classes, and concerts throughout the year.  Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit, and students in need are actively sought each year.  In addition, the school operates a music store which helps support the school’s activities.

           

POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing/Communications & Project Manager will take an active role and participate in fundraising, marketing, advertising, written and oral communications, website management, donor relationships, and database management.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project/Traffic management – help review, streamline, and manage the school’s work flow by focusing on specific projects as assigned by the Executive Director.  Help ensure various special events, activities, and programs are run smoothly and scheduled in a timely fashion
  • Development/Fundraising – help coordinate and supervise annual fund and major gift fundraising efforts.  Establish, maintain, and support volunteers/staff in developing beneficial long-term relationships with donors and prospects.  Acquire and manage donor/prospect information.  Conduct and support solicitation and donor recognition through direct mail, special events, and personal visits.
  • Marketing – marketing, publicity, promotion, and advertising for special events, concerts, programs, and classes.
  • Communications – community outreach, email newsletters, fliers, promotional efforts, grant applications, website management.
  • Performance Adbook – help coordinate the sales of ads to area businesses and the preparation, writing, design, and printing of this book, which also functions as the school’s annual report.
  • Additional duties as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The qualified candidate must have business, marketing, organizational, and communication skills and experience and have a music background or a deep appreciation for music.  In addition, s/he should possess the following:

  • Computer skills (data base, word processing, spread sheets)  and ability to multi-task and work accurately, efficiently, and collaboratively on multiple projects. 
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze information accurately, using established data management tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to relate well to all CVSM constituents.
  • Volunteer experience in a not-for-profit organization
  • Good judgment and interpersonal skills, integrity, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
  • Must have a driver’s license and dependable means of transportation, be able to negotiate up to three flights of stairs, and lift packages weighing up to at least 25 pounds.
  • Some evening and/or weekend hours will be required.

 

This position reports to and works closely with the executive director and includes full health and vacation benefits.  Salary commensurate with experience.
