DON'T MISS OUR TWO REMAINING MUSICALES THIS YEAR!

Cumberland Valley School of Music

2009/2010
Festival of Musicales Series

Each musicale features a beautiful setting, culinary delights, excellent company, and superb music.  Rooted in the European custom of Salon or Chamber concerts, CVSM musicales feature gatherings of a small number of musicians performing together in private homes or small venues.  They promote an intimacy for both performer and listener that is rarely available in a larger concert hall setting.  The two remaining musicales include a Sunday afternoon steeped in 19th century music architecture and a jazz brunch featuring internationally renowned musicians.

Young and energetic couple, Zachary & Marissa Burt, have lovingly restored their 19th century home at 327 East Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA. They  They have honored the heritage of the house but have incorporated a contemporary, vibrant sensibility. The home is filled with interesting artwork, much of it by Zach's mother, Roanoke artist Bonnie Burt. Time traveling singer, guitarist and storyteller, Roy Justice, will perform 19th century American songs focusing on Pennsylvania composer, Stephen Foster, including "O' Susannah," "I Dream of Jeanie," "Old Folks at Home," and of course "Beautiful Dreamer". Our host, Zachary Burt, will also perform at this musicale. Zach was a double major in college, majoring in both engineering and piano performance, and he will perform selections from composers Edward Macdowell and Louis Moreau Gottschalk.

"Jazz Brunch" on Sunday, May 16th at 12:30 PM.
Andrew and Sally Sussman’s new home is a beautiful Hollywood style rancher, formerly owned by Tom and Yvonne MacBride, set high on a hill at 100 Wynnecrest Drive, Waynesboro.  It offers a gorgeous outlook and is a perfect setting for a jazz brunch.   Andrew, CVSM’s executive director and a composer and jazz musician himself, has many friends and contacts who are internationally acclaimed jazz artists. Two favorites are Nancy Reed, vocals and David Leonhardt, piano.  They have great facility as performers, work together very well as a duo, and really connect with their audience.  Jazz greats they have performed and recorded with include David “Fathead” Newman, Phil Woods, Stan Getz, Bobby McFerrin, Benny Carter, and Herbie Mann, to name just a few.  Here they will be performing jazz standards as well as several songs written by Andrew Sussman
