The Cumberland Valley School of Music will again present a special series of four Musicales this year, each featuring a beautiful setting, culinary delights, excellent company, and superb music.  Rooted in the European custom of Salon or Chamber concerts, CVSM musicales feature gatherings of a small number of musicians performing together in private homes or small venues.  They promote an intimacy for both performer and listener that is rarely available in a larger concert hall setting.  This year's festival spans the Cumberland Valley and will include a Saturday evening event, a Sunday brunch and two Sunday afternoon concerts.

Tickets for the musicales can be purchased individually for $45 per person, or at a

discount for the entire series at $165 per person, and are available by calling CVSM at (717) 261-1220.

Stages of Love” on Sunday, September 27th at 3:00 PM Wood Center, The Capitol Theatre
CVSM Alumni Lindsay Shoap, soprano and Colin Mew, tenor, will kick off our series with Stages of Love,  a story of a relationship told through Broadway songs.  The Shoap Law Office and Richard & Patricia Shoap, parents of Musicale performer Lindsey Shoap, are hosting this event. Shoap and Mew are graduates of Vassar College and currently reside in New York City where they are pursuing their craft- each performing at various venues.  They will be accompanied by Brian Helman, CVSM faculty member and accompanist extraordinaire!  This musicale brings Lindsey back to CVSM and the Capitol Theatre where she spent many hours as a child and teen in numerous CVSM events and community theatre productions.  It is fitting that this musicale be presented at the Capitol in the Wood Center.

The second in this year's series is "Old Fashioned Christmas at Coldbrook Farm" on Saturday, December 5th at 7:00 PM. This holiday-themed Musicale is being hosted by Dr. Robert and Cindy Richards at their home in Chambersburg, PA. This historic home was built in 1792 by Judge James Riddle, the first president judge of Franklin County. The sense of history is palpable in this beautifully furnished house; it is not a museum, but rather a warm home alive with the charming family that lives there. The night will feature Victorian Carolers David Burkey, Krissy DiMercurio, David Forbes, & Mary McGinley. Also performing seasonal favorites is trombonist David Wenerd, joined by Andrew Sussman, piano and Herm Hopple, bass. A special guest appearance by Benjamin Franklin will tell us the history of this extraordinary home. In addition to our usual wine and hors d'oeuvres, Roy Pitz beer (a wonderful local microbrewery) will be served.

The third Musicale is "Beautiful Dreamer" on a Sunday, April 18th at 3:00 PM. Young and energetic couple, Zachary & Marissa Burt, have lovingly restored this 19th century Greencastle home. They have honored the heritage of the house but have incorporated a contemporary, vibrant sensibility. The home is filled with interesting artwork, much of it by Zach's mother, Roanoke artist Bonnie Burt. Time traveling singer, guitarist and storyteller, Roy Justice, will perform 19th century American songs focusing on Pennsylvania composer, Stephen Foster. Our host, Zachary Burt, will also perform at this musicale. Zach was a double major in college, majoring in both engineering and piano performance.

The final musicale in this year's series is a "Jazz Brunch" on Sunday, May 16th at 12:30 PM.
Andrew and Sally Sussman’s new home is a beautiful classic rancher, formerly owned by Tom and Yvonne MacBride, set high on Wynnecrest Hill in Waynesboro.  It offers a gorgeous outlook and is a perfect setting for a jazz brunch.   Andrew, CVSM’s executive director and a composer and jazz musician himself, has many friends and contacts who are internationally acclaimed jazz artists. Two favorites are Nancy Reed, vocals and David Leonhardt, piano.  They have great facility as performers, work together very well as a duo, and really connect with their audience.  Jazz greats they have performed and recorded with include David “Fathead” Newman, Phil Woods, Stan Getz, Bobby McFerrin, Benny Carter, and Herbie Mann, to name just a few.  Here they will be performing jazz standards as well as several songs written by Andrew Sussman
