The community band includes musicians from all walks of life, including many professional musicians and educators, who enjoy playing challenging concert band repertoire, which runs the gamut from classical music and concert marches to jazz and musical theater.

Under the skilled guidance of band conductor David Wenerd, this year’s Memorial Day program will be a diverse mixture of patriotic music and concert band repertoire, including:

American Flourish - R.W. Smith
Abbey Road - Hearshen
Pirates of the Carribean - Wasson
Colonel Bogey - Alford
The Sea Treaders - McBeth
Arabesques - Jean Jean
Csardas - Monti
South Pacific - Rodgers/Bennet
Patriotic Sing-along - Ployhar
Armed Forces Salute - Lowden
The Stars and Stripes Forever March - Sousa

“There will truly be something for everyone in this special celebratory concert!” says Wenerd. “And we’ve invited Chambersburg Area Senior High School senior Ashley Wyrick will be the soloist for this year’s concert.”  Ashley is also a Merit Award Winning clarinet student at the Cumberland Valley School of Music.

Band director David Wenerd holds a B.S. in Music Education from Temple University and a Masters in Music Education from Catholic University.  He is a teacher in the Chambersburg Area School District and chairman of the K-12 Music Department.  He serves as Director of Music at Chambersburg’s Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, director of the CVSM Concert Jazz Band and The Towne Singers, and an active trombonist in the Hagerstown Municipal Band, Lynn Lerew’s Slide Show, and The Sand Trap Brass Quartet of Gettysburg.  He has been the director of the CVSM Community Band since its inception in 1993.

Rehearsals are scheduled for Sunday afternoons, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, May 16, 23, and 30 in the Chambersburg Area Middle School auditorium.  New musicians who can read and perform graded band music at Level III or IV (high school level) are invited to participate and there is no charge for playing or attending the concert.
