Sunday, October 3, 3:00 PM – “Two Tenors – Father & Son” Musicale – Hosted by Jerry and Mary Jo Kowallis at their beautiful contemporary home with a glass roof, open floor plan, and striking furnishings in the Penn National area. This musicale will present father and son tenors Jerry and Tod Kowallis accompanied by pianist Brian Helman in a program of opera and Broadway, including a Mario Lanza medley. Jerry has performed extensively including featured roles at Allenberry Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Trinity Players, and Mercersburg Area Community Chorus. Tod has sung with the Sarasota Opera, Treasure Chest Opera, New Jersey Opera, and the San Francisco Opera. Admission $45 includes refreshments prepared by Chef Michael Mahr. Saturday, November 6, 3:00 PM – Student Recital: Kevin Gorman and McQuire Allen-Hall – A special recital featuring the first and second place winners in the piano category of the CVSM Merit Awards competition, both students of Brian Helman. FREE.

November 9, 8:00 PM – CVSM Community String Orchestra
– Thomson Chapel, Wilson College. Directed by Herm Hopple, the Orchestra will
perform a diverse program. (If you play violin, viola, cello, or string bass and
would like to be a part of our string orchestra, please call for more
information. Rehearsals begin October 12.) Participation in the orchestra and
attendance at the concert are both FREE. Sunday, November 14, 3:00 PM – CVSM GALA SHOWCASE CONCERT – A Centennial Celebration of American Masters – Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg. This special presentation will celebrate the 100th birthdays of several great American musicians, including Frank Loesser (“Guys and Dolls,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”), composer Samuel Barber (“Adagio for Strings,” “Knoxville Summer of 1915”), and others. An event not to be missed! Admission: Patrons $35, General Admission $15 (advance) or $20 (at the door). Students (K-12) $10 Sunday, December 19, 3:00 PM – “An Elegant Christmas” Musicale – This very special musicale is being hosted by Hank and Jan Guarriello at their magnificent home in Greencastle. The Christmas decorations alone are breathtaking, and the food promises to be exceptional. Music will be provided by the renowned Eaken Piano Trio, performing Christmas favorites, joined for several numbers by heralded soprano Elisabeth Turchi in their first ever collaboration! The Eaken Trio (violinist John Eaken, cellist Andrew Rammon, pianist Gloria Whitney) have toured all over the world, and their recordings have been nominated for several Grammys. Lisa Turchi has performed in Europe, NYC, Washington, DC and last Christmas premiered a new work with legendary composer and jazz pianist Dave Brubeck. It is hard to imagine a better way to celebrate the holidays. Admission $65 includes refreshments. Advance reservations required. Sunday, January 30, 3:00 PM – CVSM Community Symphonic Band Concert – Chambersburg Area Middle School Auditorium. Sponsored by the Cumberland Valley School of Music and directed by Tim Gotwald, the symphonic band will perform a diverse program. If you’d like to play in the band and are a proficient player (graded band music at Level III or IV), rehearsals begin January 9. Participation in the band and attendance at the concert are both FREE.
Saturday, February 19 – CVSM Elegant Dinner Dance & Auction – Chambersburg Country Club, Chambersburg. An elegant evening for friends and supporters of CVSM, featuring superb cuisine specially paired with wines, music for dancing and numerous auction items – a wonderful night in support of musical arts education and performance. Sunday, March 13, 3:00 PM – “Almost Mardi Gras” Musicale – This musicale is being hosted by Gene and Sally Herritt at their beautiful open home in Shippensburg, featuring Lynn Lerew’s Capitol Dixieland Band (Lynn Lerew, trombone; Tim Gotwald, saxophone; Bob Steiner, clarinet; Jan Sulcove, trumpet; Bill Wilson, tuba; Sam Hepfer, drums) AND New Orleans blues from singer-guitarist Mitch Morrill and violinist Scott Matlock. Just days after Mardi Gras, this will be a wonderful party celebration. Admission $45 includes refreshments. Advance reservations required.
Saturday, March 19, 9: 00 AM – 4:00 PM – CVSM Performathon – Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College. A marathon recital celebrating the joy of making music, featuring hours of continuous performances by hundreds of CVSM students of all ages and abilities. FREE.
Saturday, April 9, 7:00 PM – “CVSM Variety Hour” Musicale – Garry and Vicki Gontz will host this musicale in their new home, built in 2006. It features an open layout, cathedral ceiling and screened in porch and many whimsical and musical decorations including a collection of harmonicas. Inspired by the Gontz’s own artistic passions - Garry is an accomplished keyboard player and Vicki is an actress, director and playwright. – we will present the CVSM Variety Hour, with Dick Shoap as emcee. There will be songs and sketches and lots of fun. Joining our cast will be singing actor Lee Merriman, singer-guitarist Tresa Paul (who used to perform with Garry in an Elvis band), and Valerie Merriman at the keyboard. Sunday, May 1, 3:00 PM – CVSM Awards Concert – Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College. This concert will feature some of the best young musical talent in the area, including Merit Award Winners who recently competed in categories of voice, piano, and instrumental music as well as graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in the performing arts. FREE. Sunday, May 22, 3:00 PM – “Vibrant Serenity” Musicale – As you cross the small bridge over the Falling Spring Stream into the property of Doug and Alice Wagner, there is a large rock engraved with “Serenity,” surrounded by mature willow trees, a bubbling stream and green, lush grass. The house is large and open with an exposed two-story staircase, beautiful woodwork, vibrant wall colors, eclectic (and wonderful) art work, and even burlap curtains in the breakfast nook. The large covered patio sits amidst beautiful landscaping which promises to be very colorful in May. Our music will be provided by Jody (keyboard) and Nancy (vocals and drums), joined by Tim Gotwald (flute and sax). This trio will provide smooth jazz, some Caribbean influenced music complete with steel drum, and even a little Jimmy Buffett. Admission $45 includes refreshments. Advance reservations required. Sunday, May 30, 7:30 PM – CVSM Community Symphonic Band Memorial Day Concert – – Chambersburg Memorial Park Bandshell. With nearly 100 members, this band, led by Tim Gotwald, will perform a diverse program of challenging patriotic and concert band music. (Based on a limited time commitment, the band performs twice a year and rehearses several weeks prior to each performance. If you play a wind, brass, or percussion instrument and would like to be a part of our band, please call the office for more information.) Saturday, June 4, 4 – 7:00 PM – 3rd Annual CVSM Neighborhood Chefs’ Walk – Local chefs will prepare their culinary specialties and serve at street-side booths as attendees stroll along Alexander Avenue in Chambersburg, sampling the eclectic menus and listening to a wide variety of musical performances. Admission TBA. Advance reservations required.
