"SPRING SERENADE" MUSICALE - APRIL 13 IN GREENCASTLE TO FEATURE ELISABETH TURCHI AND ERIN SMITH

The Cumberland Valley School of Music will present it’s fourth Musicale of the season,  Spring Serenade, on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 3:00 PM at the beautiful Victorian home of Jerry and Anne Warren, 2279 Castlegreen Drive, Greencastle, PA.  Lisa Turchi (soprano), Erin Smith (mezzo soprano and trumpet), and Valerie Merriman (piano) will present a program of vocal and instrumental chamber music scanning the periods from baroque to contemporary.

Lisa Turchi has performed in opera and musical theater productions in the United States and Europe, including performances with Pittsburgh Opera, the Harrisburg Opera, New York City’s Gotham Chamber Opera.  She is a graduate of Carnegie-Melon University and holds a masters degree in vocal performance from Shenandoah University.  She studied at the International Institute of Vocal Arts and is an alumna of the International Opera Academy of Rome and the Ezio Pinza Council of American Singers of Opera.  A former merit award winning student at the school, Lisa now teaches voice at CVSM and is the director of the Wilson College Choir.

Erin Smith is accomplished as a vocalist and trumpeter.  She has recorded a world-premiere performance of trumpet solo and concert band by composer Timothy Broege.  As a mezzo-soprano, she performed for the American Musicological Society.  She has performed with the Johnstown Symphony, Shippensburg Univ. Community Orchestra, serves as a brass adjudicator for PMEA, and frequently performs in the community.  A graduate of Indiana University of PA with a Master of Music Education, degree from Pennsylvania State University, she is presently teaching sixth grade classroom music and chorus at the Chambersburg Area Middle School.

Pianist Valerie Merriman’s performance experience includes extensive solo and choral accompanying, numerous shows for Totem Pole Playhouse and Chambersburg Community Theater, and concerts through CVSM and the Capitol Theatre.  She teaches piano at CVSM.

The Musicale program will include works by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Amy Beach and Edith Piaf as well as traditional songs such as “Danny Boy” and “Amazing Grace”.

The final musicale of the season, Tennessee Memories, will be held on Sunday, May 18, at the beautiful home of Steve and Sharon Rost, Waynesboro.  The program will feature Brian Helman (piano), Scott Matllock (fiddle & vocals), and Laurie Matlock (guitar & vocals), who will be joined by our hostess, Sharon Rost, who performed as a singer and pianist in Nashville for many years before moving back to this area. 

Advance reservations are required.  Tickets are $40 per person, and all proceeds help support the Cumberland Valley School of Music, a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, teaching music and drama in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Mercersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD.
