PERFORMATHON 2008 SATURDAY, MARCH 15, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (we will go later if necessary) Dear CVSM Student, We want you to join us on Saturday, March 15, CVSM at our 17th annual PERFORMATHON. The performathon is a marathon recital at four locations - there will be no breaks or intermissions. More than any other event, the Performathon shows what the Cumberland Valley School of Music is all about. It showcases our students and faculty from the youngest Suzuki students to high school performers and adults. Classically trained singers and instrumentalists, rock bands, and our Children’s choir will all be performing. Whether playing a solo, a duet, or with a larger group, there is a place for you. We want everyone to get involved. Our goal is to have 300 students perform!! The Performathon is a fundraiser for CVSM. The idea is to raise as much money for CVSM as possible during your performance. We are a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, and our tuition is the lowest of any member school our size in the country! Tuition only covers 69% of our expenses, so we need to fundraise. We encourage each student to raise $25, but ANY amount will be welcomed. Our prize committee is busy acquiring many fantastic prizes for the top money-raisers, and anyone who raises $50 or more will receive a free PERFORMATHON 2008 T-shirt designed by San Francisco artist, Nigel Sussman.
Here’s how it works: *Prepare a piece or pieces to perform *Turn your green form in and receive a performing time (This will be sent to you and your teacher will be notified) *On March 15, come and perform. We invite you to stay for the hour and enjoy the performances of other students as well as your own. * Bring your family and friends to enjoy the event. At the end of each hour, performers will be eligible to win small door prizes – you must be present to win these. * Collect sponsors and be eligible to win our great prizes. There are four “stages” on which to perform: Thomson Chapel, Wilson College (this is on the first floor of the building in which we teach at Wilson College) This stage has a Steinway concert grand piano. It is an excellent place for pianists, singers, instrumentalists, and chamber ensembles. The acoustics are wonderful! Allen Auditorium-Warfield Hall, (Go in Park Avenue Entrance of Wilson College off of Philadelphia Avenue. .Warfield Hall is located on the left between Harmony Cottage and John Stewart Memorial Library, which is all before the 4 way stop sign.) This auditorium will feature Edgar Myers, our drum-set instructor in a DRUMATHON – He will drum non-stop!!! If you are a guitarist, another drummer, pop vocalist or instrumentalist, Edgar will play behind you or you can join in a jam session with Edgar and other student and faculty musicians. Amplifiers, a keyboard, mics, drum set will be available. Bring your own instrument, chords, drum sticks, etc. The first half hour of each performing hour will be for solo musicians (accompanied by Edgar) the second half hour will feature jam sessions. Chambersburg Mall, (the court in front of the Sears Store). This location will have a full keyboard digital piano, sound system, vocal mic and CD player (for recorded accompaniments). Room 36, Thomson Hall (this is on the third floor of the building in which we teach). This room is designed for those students who may not feel comfortable performing in front of an audience. In this “Private Recital Room” you can perform in a totally relaxed setting in front of parents and your teacher only. The room has a Baldwin concert grand piano. If you are not available to perform on March 15 you can still participate. You collect and submit your pledges and perform your pieces at any CVSM recital this spring semester! This mailing contains a PERFORMATHON Green registration Form and a sponsor sheet. Your teacher has additional copies. If they forget to give you these forms, please ask! If you have any other questions, please feel free to call us. Thanks for your support. Let’s get started!
Sincerely, Andrew Sussman Paula B. Hepfer Executive Director Program Director |
