DEVELOPMENT/MARKETING ASSOCIATE 

Founded in 1990, the Cumberland Valley School of Music’s (CVSM) offices are located on the campus of Wilson College in beautiful south central Pennsylvania, where its 53 faculty members serve over 600 students.  The school offers lessons, classes, and summer camps at several locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Mercersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD.  In addition, outreach programs are provided to public and private schools, area youth programs, and senior centers.

CVSM teaches all orchestral and band instruments, voice, theatrical techniques, Suzuki piano, and numerous classes for all ages, from toddlers to adults.  CVSM also sponsors the Cumberbunds (youth chorus); CVSM Community Symphonic Band; CVSM Community String Orchestra, CVSM Concert Jazz Band; student ensembles; extensive performance and recital opportunities; and numerous workshops, events, master classes, and concerts throughout the year.  Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit, and students in need are actively sought each year.  In addition, the school operates a music store which helps support the school’s activities.

POSITION

Working with the Executive Director, the Development/Marketing Associate will take an active role coordinating and managing fundraising and marketing activities for the school.  These shall include fundraising, planned giving, grant development and writing, special events, press releases and advertising, and performance outreach. 

The qualified candidate must have development, marketing, organizational, writing, and communication skills and experience.  In addition, he/she must be computer literate (Microsoft Office) and able to multi-task and work in a fast paced office environment.  Music background is a plus. 

This is a full time, exempt position, and includes health and vacation benefits.  Salary commensurate with experience.  We hope to have the position filled as soon as possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development/Fundraising – seek out new grant writing opportunities, coordinate and supervise annual fund and major gift fundraising efforts,
  • Special events and concerts – assist with marketing (including advertising, media coordination, direct marketing, telephone contacts, and other promotional and marketing needs) and ticket sales for all special events, concerts, and programs
  • Marketing and publicizing programs, classes, and mission, including press releases (writing and distribution), advertising, community outreach (including newsletters), and other marketing and promotional efforts.
  • Website – update and manage website information as needed
  • Performance Adbook – working with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, will help coordinate the sales of ads to area businesses and the preparation, writing, design, and printing of this book, which also functions as the school’s annual report.
  • Performance outreach – responsible for booking and maintaining faculty and student gigs, including billing.
  • General office work and telephone coverage, music store sales, and additional duties as needed.
