CVSM-GORETTI MUSICAL THEATER CLASS TO PRESENT A CABARET STYLE PERFORMANCE OF BROADWAY HITS ON MAY 4

HAGERSTOWN.  St. Maria Goretti High School and the Cumberland Valley School of Music will present their first ever Musical Theater Cabaret performance on Sunday, May 4, at 3:00 pm at Beaver Creek Country Club, 9535 Mapleville Road, Hagerstown, MD. 

Under the direction of CVSM teacher Kay Yaukey, students will perform a selection of Broadway songs in a cabaret format.  Songs will be featured from a wide range of Broadway shows, including “Into the Woods,” “Spamalot,” “The Sound of Music,” “Thoroughly Modern Mille,” “Chicago,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Sweet Charity,” “1010 Degrees in the Shade,” “Hairspray,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Threepenny Opera,” “Cabaret,” “Spring Awakening,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “She Loves Me,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Suessical the Musical,” “Avenue Q,” “Little Women,” “Side Show,” and “My Fair Lady”.

            Students have been working with Ms. Yaukey since the beginning of the school year, learning about the history of musical theater as well as acting and singing techniques.  The class includes 16 students from throughout the tri-state area, including students from Hagerstown and Frederick, MD; Waynesboro, Chambersburg, and Blue Ridge Summit, PA; and Shepherdstown, WV.

            Students participating in this performance are: Stephanie Barton, Tanner Beal, Madalina Ciobanita, Will Dennis, Zoe D’Heedene, Krissy DiMercurio, David Forbes, Patrick McAteer, Mary McGinley, Dan Motz, Charlotte Riggs, Gabi Schiro, Phil Schoof, Cahterine Stahl, Jessica Stein, and Emily Steiner.  Teachers Kay Yaukey and Gerald Kowallis will also perform.  They will be accompanied by pianist Len Meledandri.

Cumberland Valley School of Music has been providing music and dance programs at Goretti this year as part of an innovative new collaboration which includes "for credit" classes (Introduction to Music, choir, musical theater and dance/choreography) and after school ensembles (String Ensemble and Jazz Band).
