PANDEAN WIND TRIO TO BE FEATURED AT CVSM MUSICALE ON JUNE 10
The “Pandean Wind Trio” comprised of Morgan Jenkins (flute), Michael Hoover (clarinet), and Ed Stanley (oboe) will present a program of chamber music. This woodwind trio formed twelve years ago as members of the Cumberland Valley Chamber Players, a professional chamber orchestra then in residence at Wilson College. The orchestra is no longer in existence but the trio remains an active chamber group now under the name Pandean Wind Trio. Pandean means “pipes” and is associated with the mythological half-goat half-man Pan, god of the woods and forests, protector of the flocks, and creator of the Panpipes, a set of water reeds which were cut and fashioned into a woodwind instrument.Flutist Morgan Jenkins is on the faculty of Penn State Mont Alto where she teaches introductory music courses in classical, jazz, and world music, and directs the jazz ensemble. She also teaches at Hagerstown Community College and Shippensburg University, and for CVSM at St. Maria Goretti High School. Ms. Jenkins has performed with many orchestras and bands and currently performs with “Counterparts” a flute/guitar duo and is a vocalist, saxophonist, and flutist, with the “Holders,” a pop/rock/jazz quintet. She holds degrees from the Peabody Conservatory and James Madison University. Clarinetist Michael Hoover teaches clarinet and saxophone for the Cumberland Valley School of Music. Mr. Hoover has performed with many orchestras and bands in the tri-state area and currently is clarinetist with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. Oboist Ed Stanley is on the faculty of Hood College and the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College where he is an instructor of oboe and coaches wind ensembles. He has been a featured soloist with many orchestras and ensembles in the tri-state area and is currently oboist with the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra and the Appalachian Wind Quintet.Rooted in the European custom of Salon or Chamber concerts, the CVSM musicales feature gatherings of a small number of musicians performing together in private homes. They promote an intimacy for both performer and listener that is not available in a larger concert hall setting. Tickets for this musicale are $35 per person, and advance reservations are required. All proceeds go to help support the Cumberland Valley School of Music, a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts teaching music and drama in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Mercersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD. For more information or to purchase tickets contact the Cumberland Valley School of Music at 717-261-1220.
