CVSM TO TEACH AT ST. MARIA GORETTI HIGH SCHOOL!

CVSM is proud to announce that, starting in the fall of 2006, we will be providing an innovative music program at St. Maria Goretti High School  in Hagerstown, MD which will include teaching classes, ensembles, and private lessons!  If you are a current or prospective Goretti student or parent and would like more information, please call us.  We are still working out some of the details, but we will be teaching an Intro to Music class during the day, and offering ensembles (to be determined by student interest and available space) which may include a choir, jazz ensemble, string ensemble, percussion ensemble, guitar ensemble, and /or other groups or group classes.  Private lessons will be available based on demand and our ability to contract with qualified teachers to teach at Goretti.

We will also be able to teach private lessons on some instruments to students who are not studying at Goretti but wish to take music lessons at a Hagerstown location.  If you fall into this category, please call us as soon as possible so that we can gauge interest on specific instruments!

The first class to be offered (during the day, exclusively to Goretti students), Intro to Music, will be taught by Morgan Jenkins, supplemented by a group of highly qualified guest lecturers.  Ms. Jenkins holds a Master of Music degree from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and currently teaches at Penn State Mont Alto, the Hagerstown Community College, and Shippensburg University.  At Mont Alto campus, Morgan teaches introductory music courses in classical, jazz, music theory, and world music and directs the jazz ensemble.  Her performance experience includes numerous engagements as principal flutist and flute soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles as well as jazz and a wide range of other styles.  She also is a vocalist, saxophonist, and flutist with the “Holders,” a pop/jazz quintet.

String students may apply to be part of a String Ensemble led by Debbie Stotelmyer on Thursdays, at 3:00 PM.  Violin lessons will also be available on Thursdays and (if there is enough interest) on Wednesdays.

A guitar class will be offered by Candice Mowbray on Tuesdays at 3:15 PM.  Guitar lessons will also be available on Tuesdays.

Lessons on woodwind instruments (clarinet, saxophone, flute), brass (trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba), piano, and voice will be offered if there is enough student interest.

Lastly, we are exploring the possibility of offering dance classes at Goretti!  Beckie Sariano (who owned and taught at Beckie's Dance Studio in Waynesboro for 29 years before selling it last year) has agreed to teach a few classes through CVSM if there is enough interest.  We are hoping to offer these classes to Goretti students free of charge, though we are still seeking some additional funding to make this possible.
