HAGERSTOWN. The Goretti Players, in conjunction with Cumberland Valley School of Music (CVSM), will present the Tony award winning Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” at the Hagerstown Community College’s Kepler Theater on Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and the curtain will rise at 7:30 pm each night. Reserved seat tickets are only $7 and will be available at the door or by calling the St. Maria Goretti School office at 301-739-4266. Guys and Dolls tells the story of a group of small-time gamblers and the ladies in their lives. Desperate to find money to pay for his floating crap game and trying to pacify his fiancé of fourteen years, Adelaide (Kristen DiMercurio), Nathan Detroit (Michael Goodrich) bets his pal, Sky Masterson (David Merritt), that he can’t make the next lady he sees go to dinner with him – in Havana, Cuba. When the next “doll” happens to be the prim and proper neighborhood missionary Sarah Brown (Gabriella Schiro), the stage is set for an evening of high spirited entertainment. Set in New York during the 1940’s and based on the stories of Damon Runyon, the show features a classic by Frank Loesser with timeless songs such as “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” “Adelaide’s Lament,” “If I Were a Bell,” and of course the title song, “Guys and Dolls”. Other characters and students in the show include Nicely-Nicely Johnson (Tanner Beal), Benny Southstreet (Andrew Mozdy), Rusty Charlie (Phil Schoof), Arvide Abernathy (Patrick McAteer), Harry the Horse (Bennett LaRue), Lt. Brannigan (John Striefel), Joey Biltmore (Dan Motz ), Big Jule (Kyle Murray), L'il Caesar (Andrew Sayers), Mimi (Karli Kegerreis), the Hot Box Girls (Nicola Sussman, Lauren Riviello, Erica DiMercurio, Mary McGinley, Charlotte Riggs, Erin Rocco, Laurita Turner, Rebecca Oney, Heather Morgan, Karli Kegerreis) and the Havana Dancers (Laurie Turner, Erin Rocco, Corie Bruins, Laura Reed, Heather Morgan, Amanda Durski, Molly Jameson). Directed by Bonnie Pratt (her 26th production at Goretti), this show is being assisted by three teachers from the Cumberland Valley School of Music – Brian Helman (music director and pianist), Gerald Kowallis (choral director), and Beckie Sariano (choreographer). These teachers have contributed their time and talents as part of the new and ongoing collaboration between St. Maria Goretti High School and CVSM which has the music school offering a wide variety of programs, ensembles, and private lessons at Goretti, including an innovative Introduction to Music Class that features twice weekly appearances by professional, performing musicians.
