THIS IS FROM THE BAND'S PERFORMANCE IN JULY 2007
FREE CONCERT AT CAPITOL THEATRE, SATURDAY, JULY 15 The CVSM Concert Jazz Band, under the direction of David Wenerd, will close out Celebrate the Arts Day with a special performance on Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 PM at the historic Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St., Chambersburg. Admission is free. Underwritten by a grant from McDonalds of Franklin County, the CVSM Concert Jazz Band features 18 area professional and amateur musicians performing challenging concert jazz arrangements (as opposed to dance music). Over the years, the band has opened concerts for some of the biggest names in jazz, including Phil Woods, Johnny Griffin, David “Fathead” Newman, Frank Wess, Joey DeFrancesco, Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache Band, and Vanessa Rubin. The band’s repertoire includes arrangements of jazz classics, blues, standards, bossa novas, as well as some more contemporary songs. For complete program and band personnel, see below. David Wenerd (director) has been conductor of the CVSM Concert Jazz Band and the CVSM Community Symphonic Band since its inception. In addition to his work for CVSM, Wenerd is chairman of the Chambersburg Area School District Music Department, director of the Towne Singers, and an active trombone player.
