CVSM COMMUNITY SYMPHONIC BAND MEMORIAL DAY PATRIOTIC CONCERT - MAY 28!

A special Memorial Day Patriotic Concert featuring the CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be presented on Monday, May 28, at 7:30 PM at Chambersburg Memorial Park Bandshell. Paul Cullinane (president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc.) will emcee and narrate the concert, which is made possible with generous support from Citicorp Credit Services. Admission to the concert is free. In the case of rain, the concert will be held at Chambersburg Area Senior High School auditorium. The CVSM Community Symphonic Band includes musicians from all walks of life, including many professional musicians and educators, who enjoy playing challenging concert band repertoire which runs the gamut from classical music to jazz to concert marches. The band was formed in 1992 with a limited commitment in mind to attract musicians who did not wish to be tied down to year round Under the direction of conductor David Wenerd, the program will include patriotic, classical, choral, jazz, and traditional concert band music and a special salute to our Armed Forces and their families. Highlights will include "The Dauntless Battalion March (composed by John Philip Sousa for the Pennsylvania Military College), "The Light Eternal" (based on teh Legend of teh Four Chaplains), "Sweet Land of Liberty," "Colossus of Columbia March," "Patriotic Pageantry," "Victory at Sea," "A Johnny Mercer Medley," and "A Touch of Jazz". In addition, two numbers - "Fifty States in Rhyme" and "Patriotic Sing-a-long" - will feature CAKE 45 (Chambersburg Area Kids' Ensemble), a 21-member choral ensemble led by Woody Payne and Niki Kauffman. David Wenerd holds a B.S. in Music Education from Temple University and a Masters in Music Education from Catholic University. He is chairman of the Chambersburg Area School District Music Department, an active trombonist, and director of the CVSM Concert Jazz Band, The Towne Singers, and the CVSM Community Symphonic Band. The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, with nearly 600 students and 53 faculty members at three locations – Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Mercersburg, and Hagerstown. The school offers individual instruction on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice and piano, and offers a wide variety of classes, workshops, summer camps, and ensembles for students of all ages, from toddlers to adults.
