CVSM COMMUNITY STRING ORCHESTRA TO HOLD CONCERT ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14

The CVSM Community String Orchestra will be presenting a concert on Tuesday, March 6, at 8:00 PM at Thomson Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg.  Admission to the concert is free, although donations to the non-profit Cumberland Valley School of Music are gratefully accepted.

            The orchestra includes musicians from all walks of life and of all ages who enjoy playing challenging orchestral music.

            Under the guidance of conductor Herman Hopple, the orchestra’s diverse program will include arrangements of works by Franz Schubert, Gustov Holst, J.S. Bach, Henri Ravina, George Frederic Handel, and Scarlatti as well as an “Early American Suite” (“Amazing Grace,” “Hole in Her Stocking,” “Simple Gifts,” “Mississippi Sawyer”) and some other surprises.

            Director Herman Hopple, former string instructor and director of the Chambersburg Area School District Symphony, holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University and a Masters in Music Education from Penn State University.  He has played upright bass with the Potomac Symphony and the Gettysburg College Community Orchestra and is currently principal bass and section leader with the Shippensburg College Community Orchestra.  In addition, Herm is well known for his work on electric and upright bass with the groups Four Easy Pieces, the CVSM Jazz Quartet, and the CVSM Concert Jazz Band.  He also teaches bass at CVSM, and was recently presented the Bravissimo Award for “outstanding service, dedication, and leadership in the arts”.

            The Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, with nearly 600 students and 53 faculty members at locations in Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and Mercersburg, PA and Hagerstown, MD.  The school offers individual instruction on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice, piano, and guitar and offers a wide variety of classes, workshops, summer camps, and ensembles for students of all ages, from toddlers to adults.  For more information, call the Cumberland Valley School of Music at (717)-261-1220.
