Made possible with generous support from Citicorp Credit Serivices

A special Memorial Day Patriotic Concert featuring the CVSM Community Symphonic Band will be presented on Monday, May 29, at 7:30 PM at Chambersburg Memorial Park Bandshell.  State Senator Terry Punt will emcee and a Color Guard will post colors.  The concert is made possible with support from Citicorp Credit Services, and admission to the concert is free.  In the case of rain, the concert will be held at Chambersburg Area Senior High School auditorium.

The CVSM Community Symphonic Band includes musicians from all walks of life, including many professional musicians and educators, who enjoy playing challenging concert band repertoire which runs the gamut from classical music to jazz to concert marches.  The band was formed in 1992 with a limited commitment in mind to attract musicians who did not wish to be tied down to year round

Under the direction of conductor David Wenerd, the program will include patriotic, classical, choral, jazz, and traditional concert band music and a special salute to the Armed Forces.  Highlights will include a special tribute to General George Marshall and the Marshall Plan called “’Til Men No Longer Die in War” (with narration by Senator Punt), “Of Honor and Valor” which honors the Tuskagee Airmen (America’s first black combat aviators), vocal solos featuring Chambersburg Area Senior High School senior and CVSM student Melissa Black on “Vilia” (from the operetta “The Merry Widow”) and Gershwin’s “They Can’t Take That Away From Me”, John Philip Sousa’s “Fairest of the Fair March” and “The Stars and the Stripes Forever”, “Dixieland Spectacular” (a New Orleans medley), “God Shed His Grace on Thee” (a fanfare and quotation of “America the Beautiful”), “All Through the Night”, “Tarantella”, and a salute to our armed service veterans and their families.

David Wenerd holds a B.S. in Music Education from Temple University and a Masters in Music Education from Catholic University.  He is chairman of the Chambersburg Area School District Music Department, an active trombonist, and director of the CVSM Concert Jazz Band, The Towne Singers, and the CVSM Community Symphonic Band.

Melissa Black will graduate from Chambersburg Area Senior High School where she has performed with the Glee Club, Choristers, and Marching and Jazz Bands (keyboard, trumpet, and vocalist).  She has been chosen to attend District Chorus, Regional Chorus, and State Chorus, and served as piano accompanist for the CASHS Drama Club productions  Melissa will attend Pennsylvania State University as a Music Education major with a vocal concentration.  At CVSM, she has studied voice with Richard Overcash and trumpet and piano with Gloria Kelly McCauley.  She is the daughter of David and Jeanie Black.
