CVSM COMMUNITY STRING ORCHESTRA IS ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS FOR REHEARSALS STARTING OCTOBER

The CVSM Community String Orchestra is accepting new members.  Directed by Herm Hopple, the orchestra was created to allow busy people a chance to play challenging music, so the fall schedule calls for only four rehearsals and a concert.  Participation in the string orchestra is free of charge and open to all violin, viola, cello, and string bass musicians who are comfortable playing in 3rd position (first violin to 5th).

Conductor Herm Hopple holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University and a Masters in Music Education from Penn State University .  Recently retired as string instructor and director of the Chambersburg Area School District Symphony after 30 years, Herm also taught for seven years in the Shamokin District prior to coming to Chambersburg .  He has played upright bass with the Potomac Symphony and the Gettysburg College Community Orchestra and is currently principal bass and section leader with the Shippensburg College Community Orchestra.  In addition, Herm is well known for his work on electric and upright bass with the groups Four Easy Pieces and the CVSM Jazz Quartet.  He also teaches bass at CVSM.

Rehearsals for the new orchestra are scheduled for Tuesday evenings, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM, October 11, 18, 25, November 1, 8 in Thomson Alumnae Chapel, Wilson College , with the performance scheduled for Tuesday, November 15 at 8:00 PM at the same location.  Participation in the orchestra and attendance at the concert are both free.  The concert will feature music by Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, and Sir Arthur Sullivan (of Gilbert & Sullivan fame).
