CVSM
COMMUNITY SYMPHONIC BAND IS ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS FOR A SPECIAL MEMORIAL DAY
PATRIOTIC CONCERT
CHAMBERSBURG.
The CVSM Community Symphonic Band is accepting new members who are
interested in performing in its special Memorial Day concert.
The eclectic concert program will include a range of patriotic
numbers as well as lighter music such as “A Tribute to Harold Arlen” and
“Benny Goodman: The King of Swing”.
In addition to the CVSM Community Symphonic Band, the concert
will feature The Towne Singers who will also be performing with the Band on
several selections. Led
by David Wenerd, the CVSM Community Symphonic Band maintains an active
member list of nearly 100 musicians, and anyone who can read and perform
graded band music at Level III or IV (high school level) is invited to
participate.
Rehearsals
are scheduled for Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM, May 15, 22 and 29 in the
Chambersburg Area Senior High School (CASHS) Bandroom.
The concert is scheduled for Monday, May 30, at 7:30 PM at Memorial
Park Bandshell. Participation
in the band and attendance at the concert are both free, and CVSM invites
you to pull out your instrument and join in the fun.
David
Wenerd holds a B.S. in Music Education from Temple University, and a Masters
in Music Education from Catholic University.
He is chairman of the Chambersburg Area School District Music
Department, conductor of The Towne Singers, Director of Music at the Falling
Spring Presbyterian Church, and an active trombonist.
Wenerd, who is also director of the CVSM Concert Jazz Band, has led
the CVSM Community Symphonic Band since its inception.
The
CVSM Community Band was formed in 1993 in response to numerous requests for
performance opportunities by area musicians.
The band was formed with a limited commitment in mind to attract
musicians who did not wish to be tied down to year-round weekly rehearsals,
concerts, and parades. Therefore,
the band rehearses only three times before a performance.
The name was changed to the CVSM Community Symphonic Band to better
reflect the band’s repertoire, which differs from many other community
bands through its diversity and emphasis on concert band music.
