AWARDS CONCERT WAS HELD ON SUNDAY, APRIL 24, 2005 at 3:00 PM
CHAMBERSBURG. The Cumberland Valley School of Music will be presenting the CVSM Awards Concert on Sunday, April 24, at 3:00 PM in Thomson Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA. The recital will feature the winners of CVSM’s merit award competition, which was held on April 3, as well as graduating seniors who are going on to pursue careers in music and the winner of this year’s Benjamin Rhine Scholarship. In addition, this concert will mark the formal announcement of the new Henry and Janet Guarriello Scholarship Fund, which will assist graduating seniors with college tuition expenses.
In
the merit award competition, 38 students vied for 9 awards in piano, vocal, and
instrumental categories. Evaluated
by teams of impartial judges on such criteria as technique, tone,
interpretation, stage presence, and sight-reading, the first three prizewinners
in each category will perform. Winners

performing will be the winner of this year’s Benjamin
A. Rhine Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a CVSM student who is
studying and displaying aptitude on multiple instruments.

(voice), an 11th grade student at Greencastle-Antrim Senior High
School, daughter Paul and

addition, CVSM will be honoring graduating seniors who are past merit scholars
or are going on to pursue careers in music or the performing arts at this

M. Susan Matson, graduating from CASHS, will be majoring in Vocal Performance at
either Oberlin Conservatory or Boston College, daughter of Peter and Julia Emig.

CVSM voice student of Erin Smith and French horn student of Don Schroeder,
graduating from CASHS, will be majoring in Music Ed at Indiana University of PA,
daughter of Patrick and Carol McNamee. . Kevin
Padworski, CVSM
voice student of Richard Overcash and Corey Rotz and saxophone student of Paul
Grane, graduating from CASHS, will be majoring in Music Ed at Eastern College,
son of Walter and Deborah Padworski. Emily

CVSM violin student of Terry Losee and voice student of Margaret Weeks,
graduating from CASHS, will be majoring in Music Ed at Indiana University of PA,

piano student of Julia Emig and former violin student of Emily Murphy,
home-school graduate, will attend Goshen College in Fall ’06,daughter of
Linden and Ruth Showalter, Waynesboro, PA. . Joshua

Graduating from CASHS, CVSM voice student of Richard Overcash, will be majoring
in Music Ed, son of Nelson and Michelle Wenger. The
Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit certified member of the
National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts with nearly 600 students and 53
