CVSM PRESENTS 14th ANNUAL GALA CONCERT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2

             Gala 03 Program

The Cumberland Valley School of Music will be holding its 14th annual Gala Concert on Sunday, November 2 at 3:00 PM in Thomson Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA.  The concert will highlight some of the best musical talent in the Cumberland Valley and covers a wide variety of musical styles, from classical to musical theater to jazz to folk music.

Performers at the concert will include CVSM faculty, alumni, award-winning students, and friends.  In the first half of the program, organist Wayne Mowrey and pianist Jeffrey Noll will perform a stirring arrangement of “Let All Things Now Living”; clarinetist Mike Hoover, flutist Suzanne Thierry, and pianist Valerie Merriman will perform “Sarabande” by Arthur Foote and “Chorus no. 2” by Villa-Lobos; Merit Award Winning pianists Jaime Wetzel and Lawra Gudgeon will play a duet arrangement of Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite I”; violinist Leah Beshore and pianist Julia Emig will perform a movement of Brahms’ “Violin Sonata, op. 78”, and soprano Katie Bradley will sing two songs from musical theater – “And This is My Beloved” (from Kismet) and “Art is Calling for Me” (from The Enchantress).

The second half of the program will feature soprano Paula Hepfer, singing John Kander’s haunting setting of “A Letter from Sullivan Ballou,” a poignant note from the Civil War.  Dottie Klein (flute), Terry Losee (violin), Mark Miller (guitar), and Geoffrey Weeks (percussion) will perform two traditional Jewish wedding songs.  Soleil – a duo featuring singer-guitarists Tresa Paul and and Laurie Matlock – will play two original compositions.  Corey Evan Rotz, a highly acclaimed tenor with the Washington Opera, will perform the rousing crowd-pleaser “Granada”.   Closing the program, the 17-member CVSM Concert Jazz Band will perform “Day by Day” and “The Git” (an exciting Count Basie arrangement featuring drummer Edgar Myers).

Aside from being a wonderfully entertaining musical evening, the Gala Concert is one of CVSM’s most important annual fundraising efforts, and all profits go to support the school of music, a non-profit certified member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.  CVSM’s 53 faculty members teach nearly 600 students a year at four locations: Thomson Hall, Wilson College, Chambersburg; the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro; St. Andrew School, Waynesboro; and Boone Hall, the Mercersburg Academy.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased in advance for only $12 each, or will be available for $15 at the door.  Students (K-12) are admitted for $8, and currently enrolled CVSM students are admitted free.  Preferred seating Patron tickets are also available for $30 each.  Tickets are available at the Cumberland Valley School of Music, Thomson Hall, Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or by calling CVSM at (717)-261-1220.
