CVSM COMMUNITY STRING ORCHESTRA CONCERTThe
CVSM Community String Orchestra will be presenting a concert on Tuesday,
November 18, at 8:00 PM at Thomson Chapel, Wilson College, Chambersburg.
Admission to the concert is free, although donations to the non-profit
Cumberland Valley School of Music are gratefully accepted. The
new orchestra, which held its debut concert in March, includes musicians from
all walks of life who enjoy playing challenging orchestral music.
Director Herman Hopple recently retired as string instructor and director of the Chambersburg Area School District Symphony after 30 years. He holds a B.S. in Music Education from Susquehanna University and a Masters in Music Education from Penn State University. He has played upright bass with the Potomac Symphony and the Gettysburg College Community Orchestra and is currently principal bass and section leader with the Shippensburg College Community Orchestra. In addition, Herm is well known for his work on electric and upright bass with the groups Four Easy Pieces and the CVSM Jazz Quartet. He also teaches bass at CVSM. The
Cumberland Valley School of Music is a non-profit certified member of the
National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, with nearly 600 students and 53
faculty members at three locations – Chambersburg, Waynesboro, and
Mercersburg. The school offers
individual instruction on all orchestral and band instruments as well as voice,
piano, and guitar and offers a wide variety of classes, workshops, camps, and
ensembles for students of all ages, from toddlers to adults.
