ABOUT THE CUMBERLAND VALLEY SCHOOL OF MUSIC . . .

Founded in 1990, the Cumberland Valley School of Music is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization and a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.  Currently offering lessons, classes, and camps at several locations – Thomson Hall, Wilson College, Chambersburg; the Montessori Academy, Chambersburg; Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro; St. Andrew School, Waynesboro; Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, all in Pennsylvania; and St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, Maryland -- nearly 600 students are enrolled in the school in a given year, served by 53 highly qualified faculty members. Camps have also been taught in collaboration with Chambersburg YMCA's Sam's Gang, Neighborhood Ministries, Network Youth Ministries, Waynesboro Daycare Center, and others. 

CVSM teaches all orchestral and band instruments, voice, theatrical techniques, Suzuki piano and violin, and numerous classes for all ages.

CVSM also is responsible for the Cumberbunds (a youth chorus); the CVSM Community Symphonic Band; the CVSM Community String Orchestra, the CVSM Concert Jazz Band; numerous student ensembles; extensive performance and recital opportunities (last year, over 500 students performed in recitals, and CVSM faculty and students performed at over 100 different venues in the area); and numerous workshops.  We offer a full range of outreach programs to area senior and community centers and public and private schools, and colleges(including private lessons at Wilson College, the Mercersburg Academy, the Montessori Academy, St. Andrew School, and St. Maria Goretti High School), and schedule numerous events throughout the communities we serve, including an annual Gala concert, a series of “musicale” concerts (held in the intimate setting of private homes), a Celebration of African American Gospel Music, An Elegant Winter Dinner Dance, a Celebration of Jazz, and an annual student Performathon.

Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and merit, and students in need are actively sought each year.

Our doors are open.  Come visit us, and participate in lessons, classes, workshops, ensembles, and concerts.  We believe that music can enrich everyone’s life!

The CVSM Music Store provides the best in instrument rentals and sales, musical accessories (such as valve oil, strings, rosin, reeds, music stands, metronomes, tuners, mutes . . . ), printed music, and repairs.  If we don't stock it, we can most likely order it and have it in a few days.  And best of all, all profits from the store help support your community music school, the non-profit Cumberland Valley School of Music.  Located on the 2^nd floor of Thomson Hall on the Wilson College campus, the store is open Monday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and Tuesday - Friday, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
